The workshop program is shown in the following flyer, together with an outline of the workshop activities.
A central part of the Fellowship is working with colleagues in workshops to develop learning designs incorporating visualisations, informed by a learning model derived from cognitive science research. Participants will see some stunning visualisations produced in Australia and overseas, be introduced to a variety of software tools to produce their own visualisations, and see the value in encouraging learners to draw their mental models to explain phenomena in science, and possibly expose misconceptions.
The workshops were designed for science academics interested in strategically using all forms of visualisation in their teaching. They gave participants the ‘learner experience’ of using response technology in a thoughtful manner to facilitate discussion, generate feedback, measure learning gains, and evaluate initiatives.
